What appeals to you about Electronics?
I’ve always had an attraction towards electronics. As a child, I would play on my dad’s computer, dissemble broken DVD players and TVs to see all components and put it all back together – often with spare screws. From my personal situation with deafness, I understood that studying electronics and robotics would enable my desire of improving hearing aids but also working on anything in the world.
Why did you want a scholarship with Beko?
Beko Plc appealed to me as they are a company working on smart appliances and connected technologies. It’s an area I have been discovering during my courses at university and my personal project and I wanted to explore it further in real life applications. I’m also very interested in embedded systems, in research and innovation which are keys at the internship that Beko’s R&D was offering. I had another offer, but I went through with Beko as their project’s outcomes seemed to have the most immediate and fastest impact even for a short-time internship.
What type of work have you been involved with during your placement?
During my placement at Beko R&D, I was able to work on Beko’s products (robot vacuum cleaner and washing machines) and the projects were related to their improvements or generating new products. We also worked on collaborations with other companies for some components and I got introduced to the business side.
I really enjoyed my time within the R&D team as I was able to suggest some personal ideas and implement them in the projects I was working on as well as seeing some results after the project’s completion.
What are your hobbies and interests?
My free time is often filled by working on the Robotics society I co-founded at my university and of which I’m co-president. We do regular workshops as well as taking part in outreach opportunities where I get to interact with general public and kids. I also read a lot and I like to keep a trace of my memories by journaling and editing videos.
