What appeals to me about Electronics
I particularly enjoyed maths and physics at school, and wanted to do a university degree which could make practical use of these disciplines which naturally led me towards engineering. During my degree, I gained a further interest in electrical and electronics engineering, due to enjoying modules related to circuit design and semiconductor engineering. I also see electronics as a tool for carrying out meaningful work that can improve people’s lives, examples being electronics that control medical devices to electronics that improves energy efficiency of technologies such as batteries. I find the potential career opportunities and work that can be carried out in electronics to be diverse and appealing, making electronics an interesting field to me.
My experience working for Blighter
During my placement at Blighter, I was responsible for investigating and designing circuitry to bias an RF GaN power amplifier. This involved researching various methods of controlling these power amplifiers, evaluating candidate components using RF lab equipment and culminating in using Altium Designer to design the associated circuitry. I enjoyed working on new things and doing a real project that was beneficial to the company and wasn’t just busywork – I wanted to try working in RF as it was a field I hadn’t yet had exposure to beyond lecture courses at university, so gaining real world experience in the RF domain from both a lab and design perspective was valuable for me.
My interests outside of work
In my spare time I enjoy reading, as well as sometimes practising speedcubing and trying different puzzles.
